Argosy Scarf

I have about 7 repeats left on section 2 before I start section 3. I am really disappointed with the Noro Silk Garden Lite yarn. When it came time to add the new skein, I had to take out about 20 feet of the yarn and splice before I ended up with the yarn in the right place to continue with the pattern of the stripes. This is something I might expect with cheaper yarn. I have thought of knitting something big with this yarn, like a sweater, but may need to reconsider. Also the yarn is not very soft considering it is 45% silk.

I always buy Noro for the lovely colors but it really isn't that soft and the colors really do vary from ball to ball...even in the same dye lot. But that said. The scarf is lovely...the pattern really suits it! :)

Hi! I haven't knit anything with the Noro yet, but the two things I have read about it are that it softens some when washed (hope for your sake that is true) and that the color repeats as you know are very long. I have seen several balls together that are the same dye lot yet look altogether different because of which of the colors happened to form the outside of the ball. It would be nice if they started and stopped each ball in the same place, but I suspect then there might be a problem with making each ball the same length/weight. Other folks have mentioned having to "skip" a fair bit of yarn to make things match up, so I guess it is either a drawback of the Noro or a "design feature".

Having said all that, the scarf is really gorgeous. I hope it finished up nicely for you. I have thought about trying one of the versions of this pattern (I believe there is also a shawl and maybe a hat?) and you are inspiring me to move it up on the queue!

I think that it looks gorgeous, and yes, that Noro isn't all that soft, but the colors are fabulous. (I suspect I just spelled that wrong) and the colors are what makes us want to do the project. I never had anything with silk be soft, to me it is for the shimmer.

The Noro DOES soften with washing. I use the pieces I take out for something else that I'm not concerned about color matching so much. The Noro spit splices very well so the short pieces can be combined.
